Tell us about your business.

One Source Advisors, Inc. is a boutique firm of employee benefit consultants focused on proactive and aggressive client advocacy through state of the art solutions with a customer-centric approach. We pride ourselves in delivering tailored solutions to each client – no one answer fits all. Our only goal is to ensure the employee benefits offered position our clients to successfully compete for talent and growth within their industry. I am proud to say, we have been in business for 19 years!

What inspired you to get into your business?

I had worked in the health insurance industry for many years including time spent with a large insurance company. I enjoyed my career, however, after I had my second child, I started to feel torn about the balance necessary to work in corporate America while raising a family. A former boss of mine and mentor, Cheri Gillfillan, approached me with the idea of launching an insurance agency of our own. The thought of continuing my career in the industry that I had been so passionate about as well as a better chance to achieve a work-life balance was the inspiration to go into business with Cheri and start our own agency.

What are your three best practices or best tips that every NAWBO member needs to hear?

  • Get Involved-whether it is in NAWBO or in your business industry. When you get involved, you can make a difference.
  • Build Strong relationships with clients and vendors. People want to do business with people they know and trust!
  • Be Organized! When you have to juggle a lot of hats, you need to make sure you know where you have to be, the status of projects or spreadsheets, and meet timeframes and deadlines.

What does your future look like?

I want One Source Advisors, Inc to be positioned as the top women-owned, employee benefits brokerage agency in Central Ohio.

What do you enjoy doing during your free time?

I enjoy spending time with family and friends. Going out to dinner or just hanging out is always enjoyable to me!
In the summer, I enjoy spending weekends at the pool!
I enjoy reading magazines- it’s quick and easy!

I exercise on a regular basis to stay “fit” and relieve stress-which is so important in life!

My oldest son, Brian, is a Senior at The Ohio State University and my younger son, Adam, is a Junior at The Ohio State University. Both of them play intramural hockey in their free time.

My family enjoys sports, so we attend a lot of the home Ohio State Football games and many of the Columbus Blue Jackets games. Obviously, that changed this seasons with us watching a lot of our favorite teams on TV!!!

In the last five years, what new belief, behavior or habit has most improved your life?

Prayer! Power of Prayer is REAL!!!

What purchase of $100 or less has most positively impacted your life in the last six months (or recent memory)?

My Fitbit!! Well, it was a tad over $100 and it was 1 year ago but that little device holds me accountable. It truly keeps me on target of my exercise/fit goals each and every day!!

What has been your silver lining during the COVID-19 crisis?

Although my husband and I were enjoying being empty nesters, when the boys had to move back home, it was an adjustment for all of us! At first, the boys were learning how to deal with online classes while Ted and I were learning how to work remotely (neither of us ever did that in our careers). I, of course had to start cooking and cleaning for a full family again. However, I feel our family has grown closer during this COVID-19 crisis.

We have had great discussions on what they are learning in their classes, discuss what is going on with our country not only with the pandemic but with diversity and equality. If the boys were away at college, we would not have these opportunities to have such lengthy conversations with them. I love to hear their opinions, thoughts and their goals for the future. There really is hope in this next generation (Generation Z)!!
