My name is Maylin Sambois-Sanchez and I am an active member of NAWBO! I look forward to getting more involved!

Tell us about your business.
I am the co-founder of Femergy. Femergy is a non-profit organization that provides life-skills training, career exploration, college readiness, wellness management and direct mentorship opportunities for girls and women. Femergy has been serving Central Ohio and surrounding areas for the past (5) years. In collaboration with many community partners, Femergy provides girls and women with and community service/outreach opportunities. We serve girls from 12-17 years old and women 18+ years old.

What inspired you to get into your business?

In 2010 I meet my best friend Christina Vera-Reid.  After an intense training session one evening we found ourselves at a coffee shop sharing childhood stories, along with adult struggles and personal dreams. Little did we know those life experiences would lead us on a magical journey of self-discovery, purpose, and service. In 2011, we started with a mustard seed idea of wanting to bring women together simply to connect and provide each other with support and resources. We started conducting informal gatherings around Central Ohio monthly. These gatherings consisted of participants collectively reading and discussing self-development style books, followed by interactive dialogue. The vision for these gatherings was to simply give women a safe space to be themselves, connect, and to find an outside support system. During these sessions Christina and I identified many similarities amongst participants. They openly shared much about their childhood struggles and regrets. We had all agreed that we had wished we would have had more support and enrichment based opportunities and access as girls. With a new found passion and focus Girls Heart Reading Ohio was born.

In January 2014 Femergy officially was formed and became a 5o1c3 non-profit organization. Femergy stands for Female Energy, and presently produces three programs. GHRO Conference, Enrichment Institute for Women, and Chica Sports & Fitness. Femergy’s continued vision is to ensure that we are providing additional access and support in helping bridge the gap of women in leadership and decisions making positions.

What are your three best practices or best tips that every NAWBO member needs to hear?

  1. Relationships are so valuable and an essential part of your personal and professional life treat them with care. And care consistently not just when is convenient for you. Make an effort to meet people outside your “normal” circle!
  2. Not everyone will be your customer, but you still have the responsibility to treat everyone with respect and kindest. They may not be your customer but they could lead you to your biggest client yet! It’s not really who you knows that matter but rather what are you known for!
  3. Ask yourself daily, how did I care for myself today? Yes, we have great goals and many roles that we are women play daily in our lives. But we forget that the most important person in our lives is ME (YOU). It’s not selfish to take care of yourself is actually a necessity. If you are not full and well, you will not be able to truly help others. Before you go to bed, write down a few things that you are grateful for and at least one thing you did to take care of you that day! (Did you for a walk, meditated for 5 minutes, etc.). Give from a full cup!

What does your future look like?

My future looks bright! I am working alongside our team to help us open Femergy chapters nationally and internationally in the next 5 years! There are millions of girls and women in need of empowerment and support and we plan to help as many as we can one at a time!

What do you do in your free time?

Dance! I love to dance, read, and travel!

What is your company website?

In the last five years, what new belief, behavior or habit has most improved your life?
Believe- I believe in myself and know that ALL things are possible with God’s help!
Behavior- refraining my brain to think of the life and business that I want to create and not of what I don’t want. We create and become what we think about!
Habit- Investing in my own self-development and writing my daily gratitude list!

What is the book (or books) you've given most as a gift, and why? Or what are books that have greatly influenced your life?
One of my favorite books is “The ONE Thing” and all of my coaching clients read it before we begin our journey together! It’s an amazing book about taking control of our dreams, goals and time!
